Craft Volunteer with Jewish Orthodox Women

Do you like to make people feel welcome? Do you like to share your skills and knowledge on crafting, making and mending with a unique community in Hackney? Together Better are looking for a female volunteer with a love of crafting to work with the Charedi Jewish Community at the Clapton Surgery from 12:30 – 3:30 every Tuesday afternoon. This role will involve setting up and tidying away the space, planning and delivering what craft/activity you would like to do that week.
Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage NHS patients into activities that will benefit their health and wellbeing, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. Do you like to make people feel welcome? Do you like to share your skills and knowledge on crafting, making and mending with a unique community in Hackney? Together Better are looking for a female volunteer to run a crafting group at The Clapton Surgery with the aim of bringing about community, the sharing of skills and making through the collective love of craft. This is an opportunity to help empower women learn new skills, make their own items or just use the space and time for creative expression. This role would be running a craft group where members can embark on their own projects, learn new skills (led by the volunteer) setting up and tidying up at the end. This is a pretty open ended volunteering role, it will be guided by your skills and what you would like to do and the skills you have.

The volunteer will need to be friendly, reliable, happy to help out with whatever needs doing, good at time keeping, able to communicate effectively and efficiently with people from different backgrounds and be non-judgemental. Any passion for arts and crafts would be really useful for this role and a desire to help and share their passion for arts and crafts with others.
The volunteer will benefit from developing the experience, knowledge and understanding of setting up and maintaining community groups, they will have the opportunity to play a part from supporting this group from scratch so can have plenty of input in its direction. They get the privilege to work with a unique and very private group of people in Hackney. This volunteering opportunity can help provide experience and joy in teaching different skills.
We are asking for a weekly commitment of at least 2 hours per week.

The Clapton Surgery is located on Theydon Road which is off of Mount Pleasant Hill You can get the Weaver Line to Clapton Station. It is a 10 minute walk along Southwold Rd then turning left onto Theydon Road. Busses 393 goes directing outside of the GP Surgery.
