Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage patients into activities that will benefit their health and wellbeing, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. Help people get fit, build your teaching skills, and work with a unique community in Hackney! Are you passionate about helping women improve their health and wellbeing through gentle movement? Join our community programme of volunteers in GP Practices, Together Better, as a volunteer Exercise Instructor for female Jewish patients and make a real difference in people’s lives. As an exercise instructor, you'll lead weekly group sessions for patients and community members in a welcoming, non-clinical space. We are open to any type of exercise class, whether that’s yoga, Tai Chi or just general movement. We’re seeking a volunteer to continue a much-loved activity with Together Better at Spring Hill Practice. You’ll be fully supported to run your own exercise class for female Jewish patients. You'll be offering more than just physical activity; you'll be helping Women to connect, reduce stress, and gain confidence in their bodies. Key Tasks: • Plan and deliver safe, inclusive, and engaging sessions. • Adapt movements to suit different abilities and needs. • Welcome and encourage participants, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere. • Set up the space and ensure a calm environment for practice. • Record attendance and provide basic feedback to the Together Better team. • Share ideas to help grow and improve the group.

Yes – volunteers must have a basic qualification and professional insurance in the chosen exercise and feel confident leading a small group. They should also be friendly, approachable, and comfortable working with people of varying ages and abilities. Good communication skills and reliability are essential, as is the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Women-only.
Volunteers will gain valuable experience in leading group exercise classes, develop skills in communication and community engagement, and build confidence in delivering health-focused activities. They’ll also gain a deeper understanding of patient wellbeing and social prescribing in a primary care setting. In particular, the volunteer will interact with and learn from women in the Charedi Jewish community in Stamford Hill. This role offers regular social contact, a sense of purpose, and the chance to make a real difference. Ongoing support and training are provided.
1hour for class, minimal administrative time (taking and sending registers, completing registration forms), and approx. 1 hour every 6 weeks for volunteer support session.
