Volunteer Digital Champion
Digital Unite
Do you want to help people to gain digital skills? Are you good with a phone, tablet or computer?
This volunteer role is based in a retirement housing scheme at Yenston Close, Morden, Surrey, SM4 6SP. We would ideally like someone to volunteer for weekly support sessions on Wednesdays 2-4 pm. The sessions are drop-in and often involve helping people with their own phones and devices. This digital age is leaving some people behind and this type of support helps people to access vital services, as well as keeping their brains active in pursuing their interests and, of course, keeping in touch with friends and family. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 12 sessions.

Good IT Skills
You need a good level of basic computer skills, but you don't have to be an IT genius - you just need to be confident enough to find things out if you don't know how to do them. The main thing is having the enthusiasm and patience to spend some time helping others to get online. You will help people to do things like: * use Google * set up an email account * connect with friends and family using video calling * use social media * order prescriptions online
The opportunity to develop your own skills and knowledge about digital technology * Free accredited online training so you know better how to work with others and what sort of things you could teach them * The chance to part of a community of Champions who can help each other and share ideas * Ongoing support from a dedicated mentor * Rewards and awards! You’ll receive a Certificate and an online Open Badge for each Digital Champion course you complete – you can put it on your CV and show others what you’ve done. * A free DBS check and payment for travel expenses * Immense satisfaction that you’ve made a difference to someone else
