Winter English Language Fairs Volunteer

We’re looking for friendly volunteers to support our Language English Fairs taking place across at Homerton Library and Tower Hamlets Town Hall. These events connect hundreds of new learners with free English classes, and you can help make it happen!

Detailed Description

We are excited to be organising English Language Fairs across London to support adult migrants in accessing English classes, adult education, advice, and local community opportunities. These fairs are a friendly space where people can learn, connect, and feel welcomed. We’re looking for friendly volunteers to support our Language English Fairs. When and Where: The fair runs between 10:30 am–1:30 pm (except Hackney), but please arrive at 9:30 am (10:00 am for Hackney) to help with setup. We’ll wrap up by 2:00 pm. ● Hackney: Thursday 22nd January, Homerton Library, Homerton High Street, E9 6AS ● Tower Hamlets: Thursday 5th February, Tower Hamlets Town Hall, 160 Whitechapel Rd, E1 1BJ We aim to help adult migrants access: ● ESOL classes and other adult education opportunities ● Employability support and volunteering options ● Health information and checks ● Advice on immigration, housing, workers’ rights, debt, and more At the same time, we want to build strong connections between the migrant community and local ESOL providers and organisations, creating a supportive network for everyone. How you can help: Before the fairs: ● Share our flyers in multiple languages (English, Arabic, Bengali, Farsi, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Ukrainian) on social media or with your contacts in the migrant community. Every share helps! On the day: ● Setup & clear-up: help with tables, chairs, signage, refreshments, and returning spaces to their original setup ● Welcoming attendees: greet people warmly, explain how the fair works, and guide them to different providers ● Registration & data gathering: assist attendees in filling out enrolment forms (available online via QR code or on paper in multiple languages). Laptops for online enrolment are helpful but not essential ● Photography: capture the energy of the event and document the day Volunteering at these fairs is a wonderful way to meet people, make a difference, and support a vibrant, diverse community.
