Community Engagement Volunteer

Victim Support – London Adult Service

We are looking for people aged 18+ who enjoy community engagement and outreach activities. As Community Engagement Volunteers you will help us research local groups and organisations, plan and deliver local outreach events and promote Victim Support services. The role sits within our Community Engagement Volunteer and Student Placement team.

Detailed Description

Victim Support are dedicated to supporting people affected by crime and traumatic incidents by providing specialist services to help people manage after crime and to empower them to ensure their voices are heard individually and collectively at a local and national level. We are currently recruiting for Community Engagement Volunteers to help us to engage our local communities and inform them about crime and our work. There are many ways this can be done, please see below: 1. Support our team by researching and communicating with local groups and organisations to improve our connections within local communities. 2. Organise and deliver community outreach events and activities to represent and raise awareness of Victim Support services. 3. Give presentations to local authority teams, community groups, universities and schools about crime and our victim support work. Specific role activities: 1. Develop a deep understanding of Victims Support – it’s history, mission and values, and current services to be able to accurately promote Victim Support to others. 2. Develop and maintain a database of contacts with the authorities (Government, Police, Councils, and Local Health Services), key partners and communities affected by crime across London to enhance our networking, service delivery and community engagement activities. 3. Research and develop awareness dates and community engagement activities for the London Community Engagement Calendar, to attend and support, to build and maintain Victim Support’s relationship with local communities across London. 4. Liaise with Victim Support staff and other volunteers to maintain and enhance our social media presence by identifying appropriate content that can be shared via our social media accounts, and engagement in social media campaigns. 5. Assist with the delivery of community engagement activities – including event planning, risk assessments, booking facilities, activity delivery and guest management as required. 6. Help and deliver Victim Support Presentations and Talks to local groups and individuals to promote Victim Support services and raise awareness of the different ways that people can receive support and support our work. 7. Record and collate attendance statistics and feedback from each event to accurately report back on our activities and ensure any learning from events is captured. 8. Manage and maintain stocks of promotional materials for events promoting Victim Support services and recruitment opportunities 9. Distribute and/or deliver leaflets, posters and other resources to selected venues/locations promoting Victim Support. Skills Required for the role: - Good communication skills are essential. - Confidence speaking in front of an audience is desirable. - Confidentiality: Ensure that essential information of a sensitive and/or personal nature is not disclosed to, or discussed with, inappropriate persons and that all information is maintained in accordance with the GDPR and other related legislation/requirements. - Equality, diversity and inclusion: Ensure all duties are carried out in a manner which promotes Victim Support’s equality, diversity and inclusion policies. - Health & safety: Promote a health and safety culture, observe all health and safety rules and procedures and complete training courses, as required. - Safeguarding: VS are committed to recruiting with care and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Background checks and Enhanced Disclosed Barring Service checks will be required for this role. - Digital: Competently utilise technology to perform the role including internet-based voice and video calls, Microsoft Office applications, the Victim Support intranet, human resource and finance systems, case management system software and other bespoke VS software and applications. London / Home volunteering Student placements and volunteers should be able to attend and participate in team days at our Singer Street office.

You will get experience volunteering within a national charity, alongside the teams that deliver our victim support services. You will have opportunities to research and learn more about the communities we support.

Time Commitment

Ideally we are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least 3-4 hours per week between 9-5 pm Monday to Friday. We can accommodate volunteers outside these core hours as long as they are able to attend our monthly Community Engagement Team meetings (2nd Tuesday of each month).
