Alzheimer's Society is looking for a friendly and compassionate Sylheti Speaking Support Volunteer to help at our Memory Café at East London Mosque. The Memory Café provides a welcoming and supportive environment for people living with dementia and their carers to socialise, take part in activities, and build connections within the community.

The Memory Café provides a welcoming and supportive environment for people living with dementia and their carers to socialise, take part in activities, and build connections within the community. As a volunteer, you will: • Welcome and interact with people living with dementia and their carers. • Provide conversation and companionship in Sylheti to help participants feel comfortable and included. • Support participants during group activities, offering encouragement and assistance when needed. • Help create a warm, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere. • Assist staff with setting up and tidying away activities if required.

What we're looking for: • Ability to speak fluent Sylheti. • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Reliability and commitment to attending fortnightly sessions. No previous experience with dementia is required—training and ongoing support will be provided.
As a volunteer at our Memory Café, you will: • Make a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia and their carers. • Help reduce loneliness and social isolation within the local community. • Gain valuable experience supporting older adults and people living with dementia. • Develop your communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. • Build confidence while working in a welcoming and supportive environment. • Receive training and ongoing support from our experienced team. • Meet new people and become part of a friendly community of volunteers. • Enhance your CV with meaningful volunteering experience, particularly if you are interested in careers in health, social care, community work, or the voluntary sector. • Experience the personal satisfaction of giving back to your community and helping others feel valued and included.
Volunteers are required to attend fortnightly on Mondays mornings for 2 hours (11am to 1pm) and commit to the role for at least 6 months.
