Exercise Instructor

Volunteer Centre Hackney

Do you want to make a difference for women in the Charedi Jewish Community? Are you interested in providing exercise classes in new and different ways, with unique challenges and adaptions? We are looking for a qualified exercise instructor for exercise classes for the Charedi Jewish Community in Hackney.

Detailed Description

Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage patients into activities that will benefit their health and wellbeing, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. This is a unique volunteer opportunity which will require a lot of trial and error, but plenty of opportunity to make it your own and play a key role in creating these exercise classes. This is a volunteer opportunity for an exercise instructor for Charedi Jewish women (Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Community) what exercise specifically would be up to you and your credentials but there re some stipulations on what it has to include and accessible to. • The focus has to be exercise and must have a limited spirituality or mindfulness influence as this could be in conflict or offence with participants beliefs. • We want to make these sessions as accessible as possible – this means allowing women to exercise in clothes they are comfortable in (most likely this will not be sportswear). • We will allow small children into the session but we will not be advertising that you can bring children and babies. Therefore, the instructor must be comfortable with babies being present. • There is also a high likelihood there will be women that are pregnant or have just given birth, so you would have to be comfortable delivering antenatal and postnatal adaptations. • There could also be language barriers between us and the participants. Although the description is very specific this will be learning opportunity with plenty of room for mistakes and learning from those mistakes. Also, you will be providing a much-needed health and wellbeing service to these women, an opportunity to work with a unique community in Hackney.
