St George in the East

St George in the East is a large Grade I listed church. Built in 1757 it takes a good deal of care and maintenance to keep it open. We need help from someone handy with basic DIY, plumbing and electrics, as well as keeping the surrounding areas clean and safe. You would be joining a small Operations Team of three people. We also support a team of occasional bell ringers and a nest of Peregrine falcons!

Detailed Description

St George in the East is a large Grade I listed church designed by the architect Nicholas Hawksmoor to serve the people of Shadwell. Built in 1757 it takes a good deal of care and maintenance to keep it open. We need help from someone handy with basic DIY, plumbing and electrics, as well as keeping the surrounding areas clean and safe. You would be joining a small Operations Team of three people. There is a Rector and Curate as well as other ministry staff. We also support a team of occasional bell ringers and a nest of Peregrine falcons!

Why these skills are required

In terms of personal qualities, you should be cheerful, able to work in a team, and willing to ‘muck in’. Skills for the role: Basic DIY – woodworking, plumbing, electrics (changing lightbulbs and so forth). Able to work on a step stool or ladder safely. If you enjoy gardening, so much the better. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility It is not necessary to be a member of the Church of England, or any other religious congregation.

Time Commitment

Once a week would be ideal, for either a weekday morning or an afternoon to suit your availability (apart from Friday afternoon).
