Volunteer Story Facilitator – LEGO® STEM Workshop

Support LEGO® storytime workshops across Hackney. Help children aged 5–11 explore how the internet works through books, bricks, and imagination. You’ll guide a small group using a provided facilitator pack and book. Perfect for those who enjoy reading aloud, creative learning, and inclusive education. DBS required.

Detailed Description

Are you passionate about creative learning, inclusive education, or simply enjoy working with children? Join ThreadPoint Foundation for a joyful, LEGO® workshop helping children aged 5–11 explore what happens when they save a photo, stream a song, or play a game - through a story-led experience designed to make tech visible, playful, and accessible to all. First Session: December 13th 2025 Homerton Library, Hackney | Saturday 13th December | 2:00–4:30pm You’ll be helping deliver Where the Internet Goes to Sleep - a STEM storytime and LEGO build session that turns complex digital systems into something children can build and understand. All volunteers will receive a facilitator pack with full step-by-step guidance in advance. These events will be taking place across Hackney in 2026 (Dates and locations TBC). The first event will be in December, then every month thereafter. Welcome volunteers to sign up with ThreadPoint and choose the date and location they are able to volunteer. Role Involves: ● Reading aloud sections of the story to a small group ● Playing a movement game with children that explains data flow ● Supporting children through a LEGO build challenge ● Creating a calm, encouraging space for neurodivergent and curious learners ● Assisting with setup, tidy-up, and book distribution Requirements: ● Friendly, reliable, and confident with children ● Comfortable reading aloud and following light guidance ● DBS required ● Aged 18+ Volunteers Receive: ● Free copy of the book ● Printed facilitator guide ● Travel expenses reimbursed ● Priority access to future paid or voluntary roles with ThreadPoint Foundation

- Be friendly, calm and confident working with children in a group setting - Feel comfortable reading aloud to small groups - Be able to follow light guidance and support a child-led activity - Be reliable, punctual and present in shared spaces - Enthusiastic Full training & a facilitator guide, no technical or STEM experience needed.

What is in it for you

Volunteers will gain hands-on experience supporting creative, inclusive education in a real community setting. They’ll receive a facilitator guide and a copy of the book, build confidence working with children, and be part of an imaginative, values-led project that makes tech accessible to all. Travel expenses are reimbursed, and volunteers will be prioritised for future paid or voluntary roles with ThreadPoint Foundation.
