We are looking for people aged 18+ to become Community Health and Wellbeing Champions. CHWCs are unpaid volunteers who support the Council’s Public Health Team by: • Promoting health – sharing important health information with the community • Connecting people – helping local residents access health services • Listening and sharing – gathering feedback from the community to improve health programmes. No previous experience is needed - we provide full training and support.
Tower Hamlets Public Health Team is looking for people who live in Tower Hamlets to become Community Health and Wellbeing Champions. Our aspirations are for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) to be a place where residents have equal access to opportunities to reach their potential and have a good quality of life. What is a Community Health and Wellbeing Champion? Community Health and Wellbeing Champions are unpaid volunteers who live in Tower Hamlets. They support the Council’s Public Health Team by: • Promoting health – sharing important health information with the community • Connecting people – helping local residents access health services • Listening and sharing – gathering feedback from the community to improve health programmes. Community Health & Wellbeing Champions will talk with residents about a range of health issues. These could include reducing alcohol, stopping smoking, tackling obesity, improving mental health and checking blood pressure. What will I do as a Community Health and Wellbeing Champion? Your tasks will include: • Attending 3 days’ training to prepare for the role • Helping at health fairs and community events • Assisting residents to use health check machines at events • Sharing health information with neighbours, local groups and networks either online or in person • Directing people to the right health services • Giving feedback to the Public Health team on what works and what doesn’t • Helping to create health messages that are clear and culturally appropriate • Meeting with other Champions to share ideas and support each other • Checking in with the Volunteer Coordinator for guidance and support This is a fantastic role for anyone who is passionate about promoting better health in Tower Hamlets or interested in pursuing a career in public health. Informal interviews will take place on weeks commencing 19th and 26th October 2026. **Please only apply if you are aged 18+, are currently a resident of Tower Hamlets, and are able to attend all 3 training dates - Thursday 5th November, Wednesday 11th November and Thursday 12th November 2026.**

No experience needed - we provide full training and support. We are looking for people who: • Currently live in Tower Hamlets and are 18 or older. • Can volunteer, on average, for 8-10 hours per month, for at least a year. You will need a combination of mainly weekday daytime and evening/weekend availability. • Are interested in improving health and wellbeing in the community. • Have good communication skills and can speak and read English (speaking community languages is a plus but not required). • Enjoy talking to people face-to-face and working in a team. • Have some local community connections, e.g. with neighbours, clubs or parent groups. • Can travel around Tower Hamlets for events and enjoy getting out and about (travel costs will be reimbursed). • Represent the diversity of Tower Hamlets’ population and groups who find it hard to access services. • Are willing and able to complete three days of training (this will take place in Tower Hamlets on weekday daytimes).
You’ll complete three days of training in Tower Hamlets so that you feel confident and ready to volunteer. This includes: - Make Every Contact Count (MECC) training which includes looking at the Five Ways to Wellbeing, a set of simple steps that can make a difference to health and wellbeing. Training on Thursday 5th November 2026. - Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) accredited Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement training (2 days). This is a qualification. Training on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th November 2026. There will be more training available and the Public Health Volunteer Co-Ordinator will support you. You’ll also be part of a friendly team of Community Health & Wellbeing Champions. You will be helping to improve the health of people living in Tower Hamlets.
After completing the training you will, on average, volunteer for 8-10 hours per month for at least one year.
