Join IntoUniversity! As a national educational charity, IntoUniversity centres offer a safe space for young people to learn, explore and succeed. We believe in the importance of supporting young people in their communities. As a volunteer you will be supporting students with either their homework, revision, study skills or with IntoUniversity’s structured curriculum. Academic Support Overview: At each centre, IntoUniversity staff provide sessions of structured academic study after school, helping students age 7-18 to develop effective study skills. Students have access to essential resources that they may not have at home such as books, university prospectuses and computers, as well as trained staff and volunteers. Primary students may also study our tailored, termly curriculum which is based on university degree subjects. Each ‘degree’ covers key National Curriculum/Curriculum for Excellence numeracy and literacy learning objectives. Secondary students may also complete projects as part of the ‘Future Readiness Award’ where they develop the meta-cognitive skills necessary to become independent learners. Past projects have supported students to create bold presentations and take part in lively debates. Volunteering: You will be supporting students with either their homework, revision, study skills or with IntoUniversity’s structured curriculum. Sessions are free for students and take place after school in our local learning centre in Haggerston. We have separate Academic Support sessions depending on the age of students. Depending on the session, you may work one-to-one or with a group of students. Commitment: This is a once a week commitment for an academic term or for 12 sessions across the academic year. Volunteering takes place at the following times, with some variation at individual centres: - Monday and Thursday for students aged 11-17 (England): 3.45pm-5.30pm - Tuesday and Wednesday for students aged 7-11 (England): 3pm-5pm Skills Required: Anyone who has an enthusiasm for education, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use their initiative We ask that our Academic Support volunteers have a minimum grade 4/C or higher in Maths and English, National 5s or Standard Grade at Credit Level, grades 1-2 (or equivalent).
