Coffee Morning Volunteer (female only)

Ocean Women’s Association (OWA) is looking for two female volunteers to help with their weekly coffee morning on Tuesday mornings from 9:45am to 12:30pm, held at Stepney City Farm. You will be setting up the room, arranging chairs and tables, setting out the refreshments, welcoming and chatting to clients and serving refreshments, then helping to clear up at the end of the session.
** THIS ROLE IS ONLY OPEN TO FEMALE VOLUNTEERS** Ocean Women’s Association (OWA) is looking for two female volunteers to help with their weekly coffee morning on Tuesdays from 9:45am to 12:30pm, held at Stepney City Farm. The coffee mornings are for isolated, older Bangladeshi women to meet new friends and socialise, in a safe space where they can share concerns and ideas and hear talks from local service providers. You will be helping with the following tasks: • Setting up the room, arranging chairs and tables, setting out the refreshments • Welcoming clients and serving refreshments • Helping to clear up at the end of the session • Debriefing at the end of the session with staff and other volunteers, to identify what went well and any issues The majority of the women who attend do not speak much English, so if you don’t speak Bengali you can gently encourage them to practise their English, or teach you some Bengali! If you speak Bengali, that is very welcome (but not essential). Many of our service users are vulnerable and have complex needs, so all volunteers must complete a DBS (criminal record) check before starting to volunteer. OWA will cover the cost of the DBS check. Volunteers will have to complete training on Safeguarding Adults at Risk before they start volunteering. We will also provide volunteers with an induction on OWA, our client group’s needs, what to expect while volunteering and relevant policies and procedures.

Tuesday mornings from 9:45am to 12:30pm. Ideally you will volunteer with us for 3 - 6 months, so you can get to know our women and you will also get more out of the role.

The nearest stations are Stepney Green Underground on the District Line, and Limehouse DLR, (both around 10 minutes walk.) Bus 339 stops outside the Farm (St. Dunstan’s stop), and bus 309 stops behind the Farm (Stepney Green School stop).
