Shine Night Walk London Volunteer (19-20 Sep 2026)

Cancer Research UK needs volunteers to help with Shine Night Walk London on Saturday 19 or Sunday 20 September 2026. There are a variety of shifts and role available. In Tower Hamlets you can be a Course Marshal, a Course Cyclist, or a Pit Stop Volunteer. Other roles are available in London along the 26 mile route and at the start/end in Battersea Park. Help play your role in ensuring that this mass participation event raising money for cancer research goes smoothly, and have fun.

Detailed Description

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. We support research into all aspects of cancer, provide information about cancer, and run campaigns aimed at raising awareness and influencing public policy. Our work is almost entirely funded by the public. Over 25,000 people are regular volunteers. Together we are beating cancer. Shine Night Walk London starts at Battersea Park on Saturday 19 September 2026, follows all the main great views that London has to offer, and finishes at Evolution Dome in Battersea Park on Sunday 20th September. Your location will depend on which role and shift you choose. You can choose one of the following roles or, if you’re happy to help wherever you’re needed, you can opt to be a general volunteer and be assigned a role on the day. Roles based in or very close to Tower Hamlets include: - Course Marshals at Tower Gateway/Great Tower Street. You will ensure Shine participants stay on route, using your light up batons to help! You'll provide motivation and encouragement to Shine participants and fellow volunteers and report any incidents or emergencies that may need further action or support. - Course Cyclists You will provide motivation and encouragement to Shine participants and fellow volunteers, report any incidents or emergencies that may need further action or support. For this role you must own a bicycle and helmet. - Pitstop Volunteers, based at Carter Lane Gardens: In this role you'll give the walkers a well-needed motivational boost! You will help to maintain and hand out a good supply of snacks or water at the Pit Stop, so our participants feel ready to continue their walk. You'll also report any incidents or emergencies that may need further action or support. If you are happy to volunteer outside Tower Hamlets, you could choose one of the following roles: • Course Route Volunteer – located at a strategic point along the course, ready to cheer and motivate the walkers as they make their way across the city. You will be supported by a Zone Manager and be paired up with another volunteer. You can also bring a friend to buddy up with! • Venue Volunteers assist with tasks at Start/Finish venues such as set-up and handing out medals and water. These roles are based in Battersea Park. - Driver Volunteers help us to look after Shine Night Walkers and fellow volunteers by driving our welfare and medical support vehicles, as well as operating our essential Bag Drop service to keep walkers’ valuables safe. - General Volunteers are happy to help wherever needed Have a look at the different roles and shifts and if you have any further questions before registering, please contact the Shine Volunteering team. Volunteering is open to anyone aged 13+. If you are under 16 you must volunteer with your parent/guardian. If you are 16/17 you must have written permission to volunteer from a parent/guardian.

Why these skills are required

No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to cheer participants on and help the team in anyway you can. You must be available on Sat 19 or Sunday 20 September.

What is in it for you

It's fun! You will helping raise money for life saving research, get to know other volunteers and local communities, and maybe develop new skills. Volunteers receive food and drinks throughout the event.

Time Commitment

This is a one-off event on 19 and 20 September 2026 through the night. You will be allocated a shift. The exact timings will depend on which role and shift you would like to do.

Your location will depend on the role you select. The start/finish line is in Battersea Park, but there are several roles available in or near Tower Hamlets along the route (Tower Bridge).
