Detailed Description

Magic Me is a Tower Hamlets based organisation and for over 30 years, we’ve been bringing older and younger people together with arts projects that strengthen our community through friendship, creativity and joy. We are looking for people aged 18+ interested in supporting weekly sessions for this project in the lead up to the group's summer celebration. This volunteer role would suit an individual with a genuine interest in Magic Me’s work, who is able to offer an accepting and understanding presence when supporting participants. At Magic Me, inter-generational activity is about an exchange between people, where everyone both gives and receives. Although this is a volunteer role, you will participate in creative activities alongside older adults and young people as equals, whilst providing support where appropriate. This is NOT an artist's or arts facilitator role. Throughout May and June, the project will restart for the Summer term with residents and children from a local primary school. The group will work together to make their own puppet(s) and a performance which will be shown to family, friends and others in the community. The project is an opportunity for participants to develop new skills, create pieces of work and interact with new people. The following tasks are key parts of the role: • Building relationships with participants and the project team • Creating a welcoming environment eg welcoming people on arrival and supporting them as they leave • Activity support - explaining activity instructions 1-2-1, and asking participants relevant follow up questions to promote engagement in discussions • Setting up and packing down the space with the team (table, chairs, materials, etc) • Managing refreshments - making tea and coffee and setting up a refreshments table before participants arrive • Sharing observations and giving feedback after sessions in the team debriefs • Helping to document the project, noting feedback and quotes to share with the Project Manager and taking photographs on the Magic Me camera • Helping the team to prepare for the summer celebration/ sharing. The sessions take place 12:30pm to 4:15pm on 7 Wednesdays (6th, 13th, 20th May and 3rd , 10th, 17th and 24th June 2026). Don't delay. The closing date for applications is midday on Tuesday 7th April 2026.
