Disco Party Starter Volunteer
Volunteer Centre Hackney
Richmond Road Medical Centre are looking to recruit a volunteer who is happy to give one and a half hours of their time each week to lead “Daisy’s Discotheque” for the participants which is a fun activity dancing (or just moving about!) with patients at the surgery.
Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage patients into activities that will benefit their health and well being, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. Richmond Road Medical Centre are looking to recruit a volunteer who is happy to give one and a half hours of their time each week to lead “Daisy’s Discotheque” for the participants. Daisy’s Discotheque is an hour-long dance session in a GP Surgery waiting room. It is light hearted and fun for all abilities. The disco can be chair based or free dancing/singing along to a Spotify playlist of 1960’s / 70’s / 80’s music (and requests). The volunteer would be the lead person, to encourage participants which would include minimum effort moving about a dozen chairs to clear a space in the middle of the floor (not stacking them) to create a space in the middle to dance. Responsibilities would include: - Welcoming patients - Taking a register/signing people in - Dancing along and having fun - Moving the chairs back into 3 rows at the end - Filling any participants water bottles in the staff room The discotheque used to be very popular, (around 15 people) but stopped because the volunteer left, but both patients and staff are very keen to have it back! So some of the work will be building up the participants again. It is not about your dancing ability! The aim is to reduce social isolation and loneliness within our communities and bring your sense of fun and enthusiasm to the group.
