At Outward, we support people with learning disabilities, people on the autism spectrum, older people and young people at risk in their homes, in the community and through our supported holidays and respite. We are looking for virtual befriender volunteers to help us support the organisation.
At Outward, we support people with learning disabilities, people on the autism spectrum, older people and young people at risk in their homes, in the community and through our supported holidays and respite. We are passionate about helping people develop independence and meet their personal goals and aspirations, overcoming any barriers they may face. We are looking for virtual befriender volunteers to help us support the organisation. As a virtual befriender volunteer you would: - Call or Zoom with a person with learning disabilities and mental health issues for conversation - Share experiences and interests - Offer support and encouragement to reduce loneliness and isolation. What skills you need to become a virtual befriender: - Good listener - Empathetic - Patient - Reliable - Experience of mental health issues would be useful
Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring
Basic IT skills - internet & email, Counselling
Good listener, empathetic, patient, reliable, experience of mental health issues would be useful
Enjoy talking to someone new, learn more about learning disabilities and mental health issues, gain experience for your CV, see your input have a positive impact on someone isolated and lonely
1 - 3 hours per week. Flexilble times.
