V&A East

Love how stories bring people together? Want to go behind-the-scenes of a working museum? As a Storytelling Volunteer, you’ll highlight objects in the collection, spark conversation about them and encourage people to share their stories. Whether you are zooming in on your favourite artefacts, drawing connections between displays or chatting with visitors about the kinds of museum work they can see across V&A East, your enthusiasm will help make their visit unforgettable!

Detailed Description

Why we want you: V&A East is dedicated to creative opportunity and its power to bring change. Two free cultural destinations – V&A East Storehouse and Museum – will open up the V&A collection for all, celebrate making in all its forms and create new possibilities for everyone. This role is based at V&A East Storehouse - a unique new museum experience that invites visitors behind the scenes to wander amongst half a million creative works, spanning every era, discipline, and corner of the globe. Through an ever-changing programme of displays, events and workshops, V&A East Storehouse will share new discoveries and untold stories and provide new opportunities for everyone to discover and develop their own creativity. As a Storytelling Volunteer, you will bring the collection and archive to life by sharing stories of how objects are made, collected, cared for, and understood today. Whether you are spotlighting your favourite objects, or drawing connections between the displays, you’ll help make their visit unforgettable. Volunteering at V&A East is flexible and there’s no minimum commitment. Slots are available across the week, including weekends and evenings, and last between 2-4hrs, so you can choose what’s best for you. What you will be doing • Bring objects to life with stories about different cultures and ways of making • Chat with visitors about the displays and what they find fascinating • Explore a remarkable collection, with support to pursue and share your interests • Join an exciting conversation about the power of creativity and collaboration The skills you need • Curiosity about different cultures and ways of making • A love of talking to people and sharing stories What’s in it for you • Take part in a cultural experience like no other • Ignite your own creativity, with like-minded people • Develop creative skills and confidence • Gain insight into different creative and museum professions Disclaimer Successful applicants for this role will be required to undergo a basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. This will be carried out by the V&A. All relevant training and support will be provided.

Time Commitment

We’d love for you to join us once or twice a month, but there’s no minimum commitment. Volunteering slots are available across the week, including weekends and evenings, and will vary in length, between 2-4hrs, so you can decide what’s best for you.
