Web Developer

Working Well Trust

Are you skilled in web development and eager to use your expertise to support others? We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help our clients (people with mental health challenges and neurodiversity) to build and launch their business websites. By volunteering, you’ll play a vital role in helping individuals establish an online presence to grow their businesses. Four hours per fortnight are needed, but timing can be flexible based on your availability and our clients’ needs.

Are you skilled in web development and eager to use your expertise to support others? We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help our clients build and launch their business websites. By volunteering, you’ll play a vital role in helping individuals establish an online presence to grow their businesses. Working Well Trust is an employment charity dedicated to empowering people experiencing mental health challenges and neurodiverse conditions to achieve their potential through meaningful employment. Our mission is to improve lives by offering emotional and practical support at every stage of their recovery and employment journey, fostering self-respect, confidence, and financial independence. Starting a business or social enterprise can be both challenging and rewarding. For clients seeking independent advice to pursue an entrepreneurial career path, the Business & Enterprise Advice Service offers expert mentoring and practical guidance to help them overcome barriers and build sustainable businesses. As a Web Developed you will: o Work with clients to design and build functional, user-friendly websites tailored to their business needs, providing guidance on functionality, UX, and design. o Provide training to clients on updating, managing and maintaining their sites independently. o Offer advice on cost-effective tools and platforms to support client needs. o Ensure all websites adhere to accessibility standards and GDPR best practices. o Collaborate with the Business & Enterprise Advisor to ensure client needs are met, track client progress and provide ongoing support as needed. A criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable adults.

Essential Criteria: • Proficiency in web development, including front-end design/back-end functionality, with platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, GoDaddy, or Squarespace, etc. • Understanding of website accessibility and best practices. • Excellent communication and mentoring skills. • Empathy and patience when working with individuals with diverse needs. Desirable Criteria: • Experience in developing websites for small businesses or startups. • Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO) and analytics tools. • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, integrations and PPC optimisation. • Awareness of the challenges faced by individuals with mental health conditions or neurodiverse traits.

Time Commitment

• We ask volunteers to commit to at least 4 hours every fortnight. • Hybrid working available. • Flexible scheduling to suit your availability, though we do need you to be available on the occasional Monday or Thursday to liaise with the Team Lead. • We can accommodate both regular and ad-hoc volunteering hours.
