Volunteer Homework Club Tutor & Supervisor

Unity Support Network

Support children (ages 11 - 16) with homework, reading, and study skills in a safe, engaging environment. Provide one-on-one and group tutoring, encourage learning, and help build confidence. Must have strong academic skills, patience, and a clear Enhanced DBS Check. Training provided. 3 hours per week, with potential for more during holidays.

Detailed Description

We are looking for a dedicated and patient volunteer to support children and young people with their homework, helping them develop confidence, improve their academic skills, and reach their full potential. This role involves supervising students during homework sessions, providing academic guidance, and creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Key Responsibilities ✔ Assist children (ages 11-16) with homework, reading, and study skills ✔ Provide one-on-one and small group support in subjects such as maths, English, and science ✔ Encourage a positive attitude towards learning and academic success ✔ Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants ✔ Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress ✔ Support in organising learning materials and fun educational activities ✔ Adhere to safeguarding policies and report any concerns to the designated lead

What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

✔ Strong academic background (GCSEs or higher, A-levels in core subjects preferred) ✔ Experience working with children in education, tutoring, or mentoring (preferred but not essential) ✔ Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to explain concepts in an engaging way ✔ Strong communication skills to support and motivate young learners ✔ Ability to manage small groups of children effectively ✔ A clear Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to undergo one) ✔ Understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training provided)
