With December fast approaching, Crisis is seeking volunteers for Crisis at Christmas. Every December, hundreds of people facing homelessness come to our Crisis at Christmas hotels and day centres. Volunteers provide a warm welcome, safety, food, and companionship, making Christmas a time that changes lives. Last Christmas, over 600 people stayed in our hotels, 74 received one-to-one support, and more than half left without returning to the streets. This year, we will open two hotels in Docklands and Aldgate, plus three day centres in Paddington, Pimlico, and Stratford. We are also piloting our new Women-Led Pathway in East London. Hotels will be open from 22nd December to 21st January, and day centres from 24th to the 28th December. No matter your experience, there is a role for you! From general volunteers and hotel assistants to service providers, such as hairdressers and doctors. All information is available on the Crisis website - https://www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/volunteer-at-christmas/volunteer-at-christmas-in-london/

Some of our roles require previous experience or qualifications and others do not. Professional service volunteers, such as those completing health checks or haircuts will require the relevant qualifications and public liability insurance. In some roles we may be looking for volunteers with experience of supporting people who are homeless or other vulnerable adult groups. Information about each role will be listed on our website and throughout your volunteer application form. Please check this information before applying to ensure you are applying for the most suitable role for you.
The connections you make at Christmas can be long-lasting. And the support you give people experiencing homelessness can be life-changing. Join our incredible volunteer community - and help us end homelessness. Get involved to: • Gain skills. • Get inspire. • Build confidence. • Help someone start a life out of homelessness. You could be the friendly face someone sees when they walk through our doors. Or maybe you'll deliver festive hampers, provide healthcare, or offer advice. Whatever your role, you'll make a huge difference.
We ask for a minimum of 2 shifts for most of our roles, and a minimum of 4 shifts for some specialist roles. You can find minimum shift requirements in the role description for each role on our website. We have minimum shift requirements in place because we have seen how it can have a very positive impact on the guests’ experience. When volunteers are coming in for more than one shift, it means that guests can start to see familiar faces in certain roles, creating more a warm, community atmosphere in our centres.
