Swadhinata Trust is a London-based secular Bengali community group that works to promote Bengali history and heritage. We need Events and Activities Volunteers to work in a team to help run a programme of activities and events such as our Bengali heritage walk, Nakshi Kantha workshop, Aplona Art workshop, Chanachur Making workshop, and Qheritage project. We would especially like to hear from volunteers who are bilingual in English and Bengali/Sylheti and literate in both languages.

We need Events and Activities Volunteers to work in a team to help run a programme of activities and events such as our Bengali heritage walk, Nakshi Kantha workshop, Aplona Art workshop, Chanachur Making workshop, and Qheritage project. We would especially like to hear from volunteers who are bilingual in English and Bengali/Sylheti and literate in both languages. The role involves: • Taking minutes • Organising refreshments • Managing guest lists • Setting up for activities and events • Supporting participants to engage with activities in a safe manner • Tidying up after activities and events • Attending meetings relating to projects e.g. management committee meetings, Qheritage project.

We are looking for volunteers who are literate in English and Bangla/ Sylheti if possible. Other skills and abilities that would be helpful are: - Good communication skills - Confidence to step outside your comfort zone and enthusiasm for learning new things - Ability to think on your feet - Keen problem-solving skills - Emotional resilience - Numeracy - Experience of working with a voluntary organisational would be helpful but is not essential - Ability to innovate - Empathy - Leadership potential
You will be working on creative activities, events and projects that engage with people with the diverse arts and culture of the communities living and working in the UK. You will work alongside other volunteers who are passionate about Bengali culture and heritage. Contributing to research and /or work that will shed light on under-represented minority communities in the UK. Learning new skills and gaining experience. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
We ask for a minimum of one session (2 hours) per month. This is usually on a weekday evening.
