Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees

Hackney Playbus

At Hackney Playbus the preparation and presentation of financial reports to the Board is delegated to the Co-Director of Strategy and Finance. The role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s financial affairs with a focus on financial viability, and working with the Co-Director, ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Detailed Description

In addition to the general responsibilities of a Trustee, duties of the Treasurer include the following. Liaising with the Co-Director of Strategy and Finance regarding financial matters Overseeing and approving budgets, accounts and financial statements Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy and that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity. Ensuring that the accounts are prepared, independently examined on an annual basis and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies. Ensuring any recommendations made by the examiners are implemented. Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required

Why these skills are required

We are looking for a candidate with skills and experience in accounting and financial management and a collaborative approach to working as part of a team. You do not have to have prior experience of being a Trustee as we will provide help, information and a friendly induction process. We are seeking applicants who have: Skills and experience in accounting and financial management in the Not for Profit sector A genuine interest in the provision of a welcoming and inclusive community-based service for families with children under five. A genuine interest in involving families in the design of our services so that they are accessible and appropriate to their needs. A commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A willingness to be an active team member, taking part in quarterly trustee meetings and playing a role in working groups as and when appropriate to support staff and specific work streams. An ability to communicate financial information in an understandable way An ability to read meeting minutes and reports and to provide feedback.

Time Commitment

Meetings: Quarterly Trustee Board Meeting (usually online, one in four held in person in the London Borough of Hackney) held on a Monday evening 7pm to 8.30. Plus annual AGM Ad hoc meeting/telephone conversation with fellow Trustees and Co-Director of Strategy and Finance. Other commitments: Reading through financial papers. 1- 2 hours per month.
