Festive Community Meals cooking

Made in Hackney

Join in some festive cooking with Community Made over the holidays. Have some fun and cheer in team cooking led by a chef, to cook 200 plant-based meals that will be delivered to local community members who need access, and to community hubs.

Detailed Description

To assist cooking for the community to ease food access during the festive season. Meals are delivered to local members with low mobility and local community hubs. Volunteers and participants cook about 150-200 meals together in Community Made. Have fun, make social connections as a team, and learn new cooking skills in plant-based cooking. Community Made cooking is always on Mondays or Wednesdays 10 am - 3 pm. (with 2 special Fridays, 20 December and 3 January during the festive season) 23 December is a longer session from 10 am - 5 pm. There are some available spaces on 9, 11, 16, 18, 20, 23, 30 December and 3, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 January 2025. Priority will be given to Hackney residents while open to all. Please indicate where you live. Key Tasks • Assisting with washing and chopping vegetables and preparing meals (note: cooking at such a large scale requires a lot of prep so you might be on the same task for over an hour) • Counting and labelling meal containers • Portioning out food and serving into take away meal containers • Assisting with washing up and cleaning kitchen during each shift • Other tasks as needed e.g. tidying storage shelves, sorting recycling bins
