Neighbourhood Forums Hands-on Helper/General Volunteer

We are looking for a Hands-On Helper to help the team run Forum meetings and Action Groups. We would love you to be a friendly face for members of the community as we want Neighbourhood Forums to be for everyone, and you can help to make this happen! You will also help to promote the forums locally and encourage people to come along.
The Neighbourhood Forums are a place for people living and working in City & Hackney to come together and have a say about how to improve their health and wellbeing, and remove barriers to health care services. We are looking for community focused volunteers to get involved and help support the work we do. Do you like getting stuck in and making things happen? Are you a hands-on person who gets things done? The Hands-On Helper will help the team to run Forum meetings and Action Groups. We would love you to be a friendly face for members of the community as we want Neighbourhoods Forums to be for everyone, and you can help to make this happen! You will also help to promote the forums locally and encourage people to come along. Duties and responsibilities: • Practically support Neighbourhood Forum meetings and Action Group Meetings. • For in-person events you will: o help welcome residents to the venue at our welcome desk eg write name tags and support people with signing in. o help with the set-up and breakdown of the venue space, including helping to put out chairs and tables, clearing up food and crockery, cleaning, throwing away rubbish. o Give out goody bags. o help with refreshments, get food to the venue and help to serve if needed. o Be a general point of help on the day. • Take part in meetings with the team to give feedback about the events, including what went well and what didn’t. • Help spread the word about the Forum and it’s other activities by talking to residents about Neighbourhoods and encouraging people to get involved. Skills and attributes: • Friendly, welcoming and confident speaking to new people. • Happy to get stuck in and help an event to run smoothly. • Be willing to support with manual handling of basic equipment, like chairs and tables (support can be provided). • Be positive about community projects and involving residents. • Be positive about improving your community. • Have a commitment to improving health for the borough. Desirable skills and attributes but not necessary: • Have an understanding of NHS & Social Care Systems • Have in depth knowledge of your local area. • Have a commitment to improving the health of your community. • Speak a community language. • Have previous experience in a similar role. • Have an understanding of health & safety (training will be provided if you don’t!). Once you have registered interest you will receive a short form to complete so you can tell us a bit about yourself. Once we have your form, we can set up a 1-1 chat, where we can have a more in-depth conversation about the role. If you think the role is for you, you will then complete a short induction which will cover everything you need to know, as well as the training and support you will receive.

- Connection - a chance to meet others and connect with people in your community - Support - a way of getting involved and making change within the NHS and care system. - Learning & growing - you will be given training as part of your induction that will help you develop skills and tools that you can use in outside of your volunteering opportunity. - Progression - taking on this role can lead to other volunteering opportunities with us, we have lots more for you to get involved with.
You will need to attend 2 Neighbourhood Forum meetings and 4 Action Groups meetings per year, as well as planning meetings outside of this. There may be other events that pop up, but we can have a chat about your capacity and what you are able to get involved with.
