Engagement Advocate for MATCH Programme

We are looking for an Engagement Advocate to be involved in MATCH project areas from start to finish. You will support the leads of the programme to co-design and support the project to include and uplift the voice and involvement of residents. You will be a champion for the programme, but also for others in your community.
MATCH is a programme of work being carried out by the Population Health Hub that brings together people that work in the health & care system, voluntary organisations and residents to improve access to health care by those who are affected by inequality. The MATCH programme identifies key local issues where there are ongoing inequalities, and works with partners to pinpoint and put in place ideas for change. Are you passionate about making change in your community? Are you a leader who speaks up for others and will take action to make that happen? As an Engagement Advocate, you will be involved in MATCH project areas from start to finish. You will support the programme leads to co-design and support the project to include and uplift the voice and involvement of residents. You will be a champion for the programme, but also for others in your community. Duties and responsibilities: • Work in partnership with the project area leads to develop outreach events in the community. • Help recruit residents to attend outreach events and workshops. • Facilitate and participate in discussions with the community at outreach events and workshops. • Work in partnership with the project leads to help develop workshops that work for the community. • Support leads with delivery of outreach events and workshops. • Participate in steering groups or working groups that support the development of the project area. • Support with delivery of research in your community. • Mentor and support other volunteers (this is optional and depends on your capacity). Skills and attributes: • Confident in speaking up and sharing your lived experience of issues that face your community. • Able to present issues that affect your community and help offer solutions. • Able to act as a mediator between communities and health and care services. • Be a voice for those that are often underrepresented and communicate with them. • Be positive about community projects and involving residents in the design and creation of health and care services. • Have a personal commitment to improving health for your community and borough. • Welcoming and open, able to listen to multiple viewpoints. • Willing to speak in public/in front of groups of people about topics you are passionate about and able to help with. Desirable skills and attributes but not necessary: • Have an understanding of NHS & Social Care Systems. • Have in depth knowledge of your local area/neighbourhood. • Speak a community language. • Have previous experience in helping with events or similar. Once you have registered interest you will receive a short form to complete so that you can tell us a bit about yourself. Once we have your form, we can set up a 1-1 chat, where we can have a more in-depth conversation about the role. If you think the role is for you, you will then complete a short induction which will cover everything you need to know, as well as the training and support you will receive.

Skills and attributes: • Be friendly, welcoming and ready to chat to new people. • Happy to get stuck in and help an event run smoothly. • Be willing to support with manual handling of basic equipment, like chairs and tables (support can be provided). • Be positive about community projects and involving residents. • Have a commitment to improving health for the borough. • Positive and passionate about improving your community. Desirable skills and attributes but not necessary: • Have an understanding of NHS & Social Care Systems • Have in depth knowledge of your local area/neighbourhood. • Have an understanding of health & safety (training will be provided). • Speak a community language. • Have previous experience in helping with events or similar.

Each MATCH programme area will take approximately 1 year, with an aim for you to spend around 2 – 3 hours each month on the project you are assigned to. There will be an opportunity for you to take on more if you have capacity and want to get more involved, and we will always do check-ins to see if the role is for you.
