The Canal and River Trust are looking for enthusiastic and passionate individuals to help facilitate community and corporate volunteer work parties along the canal. This involves managing the activities for the day - painting, gardening, and general tidying-, ensuring the safety of the group, and fostering a fun and positive attitude so that our volunteers want to come back year after year.

Detailed Description

The Canal and River Trust is excited to share this exciting opportunity to join our inner London team and work with our wide range of volunteers. We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate individuals to help facilitate community and corporate volunteer work parties. This involves managing the activities for the day - painting, gardening, and general tidying-, ensuring the safety of the group, and fostering a fun and positive attitude so that our volunteers want to come back year after year. You will spend time with local people working together to make a difference in their local community, learn new things, and enjoy all London's waterways have to offer. This opportunity is perfect for someone looking to build experience managing volunteers, or someone looking to share their expertise! You will need to have some flexibility as we run many events throughout the week during the sunlight hours. We give you full training and provide resources for supporting, including training days, and team meetings. You will have the support of the London volunteer leaders as well as the other volunteers in your team. This is a genuine hands on opportunity where you will learn more about our canal network, how to deliver safe and impactful volunteer days, and get great enjoyment from seeing the change on the canal network. We can also offer some formal trainings to those who are committed and interested in them. As you will be a part of a team leading a group of volunteers we will ask for references. The above skills are all ones that a person may use though out their time with us, but am more than happy to train and teach someone who is committed to learning! As this is a hands on role working with, guiding, and motivating other volunteers any candidate must be professional, enthusiastic, and friendly. Anything else can be taught!

What is in it for you

You will spend time with local people working together to make a difference in their local community, learn new things, and enjoy all London's waterways have to offer. Some training that we can offer in time include operating some of London waterway’s iconic structures, locks, and bridges. You can learn how to drive our boats. Throughout the year we offer different introductory maintenance training like brickwork, paving, tool training, and maintaining our locks. This opportunity is perfect for someone looking to build experience managing volunteers, or someone looking to share their expertise! You will need to have some flexibility as we run many events throughout the week during the sunlight hours. Time Commitment

1 day (6-8 hours)/ week but this can vary throughout the year based upon booking and needs.
