The overall role of a Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s financial affairs with a focus on financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. At Hackney Playbus the preparing and presenting of financial reports to the Board is delegated to the Director with Financial Responsibility.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the treasurer include the following. Liaising with the Director about financial matters Overseeing and approving budgets, accounts and financial statements Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy, if relevant and that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity. Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities. Ensuring that the accounts are prepared, independently examined on an annual basis and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, including the Charity Commission. Ensuring any recommendations made by the examiners are implemented. Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required

We are seeking applicants who have: Skills and experience in accounting and financial management in the Not for Profit sector A genuine interest in the provision of a welcoming and inclusive community-based service for families with children under five. A genuine interest in involving families in the design of our services so that they are accessible and appropriate to their needs. A commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A willingness to be an active team member, taking part in quarterly trustee meetings and playing a role in working groups as and when appropriate to support staff and specific work streams. An ability to communicate financial information in an understandable way An ability to read meeting minutes and reports and to provide feedback.
As a Hackney Playbus trustee you will join a friendly, innovative team of 12 existing Trustees who have a shared and genuine commitment to our charity and its aims. You will have the opportunity to gain experience and to be part of the decision-making process. You will be provided with training opportunities where appropriate. You will find out more about how a small charity functions, its challenges and its advantages and how services are delivered to meet local needs. You will enjoy knowing that the time you give and the skills you share truly help to make a difference for families who are bringing up children in challenging circumstances.
Quarterly Trustee Board Meeting (a mix of in person and via Zoom) held on a Monday evening. Annual AGM Ad hoc meeting/telephone conversation with fellow trustees and director.
