Our group currently runs on a Wednesday, term time only, 11am-1pm (volunteers helping set up and set down, 10:30-11am and 1-1:30pm). This is a safe environment which encourages socialisation, peer support, activities, and a lunch. This group is for parents and their little ones from pregnancy up to 5 years old. Who can volunteer for us? • You must be a parent. • You must be able to offer 3 hours most Wednesdays. • You should be able to commit at least a year of your time to Home-Start Merton. • You should have a non-judgemental attitude and understand about the pressures of bringing up a family. • You will have to attend our free volunteer preparation course with other new volunteers. • You must understand that your support for families is completely confidential. • You will have to undergo a criminal record check (DBS) at enhanced level. Do I need any qualifications? The only real ‘qualification’ you need is experience of bringing up children. Friendliness and a caring attitude are essential as well as an understanding of the pressures of parenting. We value all sorts of skills that will help support a family so if you have any special skills such as a second language, you are arty or crafty, you play a musical instrument, you have any other specific interest, skill, or qualification we would love to hear from you. We value people who don’t judge others; people who will respect the fact that they have been invited into a family’s home; people who will treat a mother or father as an equal.
