HR Support Volunteer

Children with Voices

Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. We are looking for someone who knows HR and wants to help us get it right, so that everyone who works here is recruited fairly, supported properly and treated well.

Detailed Description

Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. Our founder Michelle began with a Winter Wonderland for local children at London Fields School, covered by the Hackney Gazette, after being named Family Mosaic Inspirational Tenant of the Year. Today we are a registered charity at Fawcett Estate Community Hall in Clapton, running a Community Food Hub, Jumping Beans, SEND support, alternative education and work in local schools. Over 100,000 children and families have come through our doors. We are looking for someone who knows HR and wants to help us get it right, so that everyone who works here is recruited fairly, supported properly and treated well. Who this role suits: A retired or semi retired HR professional, or someone CIPD qualified who wants to give something back. If you have spent your career on policies, recruitment and doing right by staff, this is a chance to use all of it somewhere it will genuinely change things. We would be looking for someone to volunteer for approximately 6 to 8 hours a week, with time in the office by agreement. Duties and responsibilities: • Reviewing and updating our HR policies so they hold up against UK employment law and safeguarding requirements • Helping us recruit and onboard fairly and inclusively, with safe recruitment practice built in from the start • Advising our managers when questions come up, and telling us plainly when something needs professional or legal advice we should pay for • Keeping our HR and volunteer records accurate, secure and compliant with data protection • Helping us build simple, honest processes for supervision and staff wellbeing What you will need: • Real HR knowledge and current understanding of UK employment law. • Sound judgement, because you will meet situations that need care. • Absolute discretion, as you will handle confidential information about staff and volunteers. You do not need charity sector experience. What you will get from us: The chance to build something properly rather than patch it up. Direct access to our CEO and leadership team. Proper support, so you are never left to figure it out alone. A personal reference from Michelle, and the knowledge that a whole team is better looked after because of you.
