Warehouse Assistant

City Harvest

City Harvest are looking for volunteer warehouse assistants to assist with a number of duties to support our mission in reducing food insecurity and protecting the planet.

Detailed Description

City Harvest's Mission is to reduce food insecurity and protect the planet by diverting quality, nutritious, edible surplus food from waste and redistributing it to those facing food poverty. Every volunteering experience with City Harvest is different. There is huge flexibility depending on the amount of time you can commit. The Role: WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT • unloading deliveries • creating mixed trays of food • quality control: checking and grading fresh food • helping to load vans • daily warehouse tasks *Due to the nature of our operation, current roles all require standing, walking, and lifting. Manual handling training is provided, and staff will be on hand to support you.

Your contribution will have a direct social and environmental impact: preventing harmful greenhouse gas emissions from food waste and getting nutritious surplus food to people who need it most. Volunteers are the life and soul of all we do at City Harvest: the packers, the stackers, the sorters, and the porters. We couldn’t do what we do without the support from amazing people like you!

Time Commitment

We recommend a minimum of 2 hours a week (1 shift) but there are no minimum commitments. Our shifts in Leyton are only avaliable in the mornings only.

You will find us in the right-hand corner of the market car park, next to the Calor Gas Bottling Station. We have various transport links you can use to access us, including: TUBE STATIONS • Leyton Station (Central Line) • Stratford Station (Central, Jubilee, DLR, Overground Lines) There are also a plethora of bus routes which pass close by to our site. We recommend apps such as City Mapper to find your best route to us! DRIVING IN There are carparking facilities available, however be cautious not to park in a ‘Van Only’ spot, as you could get a ticket! There is limited capacity, so we do ask that you carpool or take public transport wherever possible. To park, enter through the security gates and turn an immediate right. Along this lane, any of the parking spaces on the right can be used by us. From there, you can walk to us, next to the Calor Gas Bottling Station. CYCLING IN We have space to store your bike onsite at New Spitalfields Market. We recommend that you bring a bike lock with you to secure your bike whilst volunteering.
