We need trustees, Chair, Treasurer & Secretary for our Hackney community charity. We are locally led and about local people helping each other in tough times, recognising the diverse talents of local people who are best placed to create lasting change. Your role involves to: • ensure we comply with our governing document, charity & company law etc. • ensure we use resources effectively towards our vision and goals, maintaining financial stability • with the CEO, to help set strategic direction

Detailed Description

We are looking for charity trustees for our Hackney community charity: Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and board members. You will work with us as we move the organisation forward in its work. The charity is about local people helping each other in tough times and recognising the diverse talents of local people who are best placed to shape initiatives to create lasting change. We are locally led. The role will take place at: Boiler House Spaces George Downing Estate, Cazenove Rd, Hackney, London, N16 6BE Your role involves: • To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation. • To ensure we use our resources effectively to work towards our vision and goals, maintaining financial stability • In conjunction with the CEO, to contribute actively in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against targets. • To be a responsible risk taker • To safeguard our reputation and values • To ensure we protect and manage the property and ensure sound investment of its funds. • To appoint the CEO and monitor their performance. Other duties: • Carefully reading and considering board papers, ahead of meetings Regular, active attendance at meetings. • Focusing on key issues • Providing guidance on new initiatives • Other issues in which the trustee has specialist expertise. • To visit projects and services occasionally (don’t be a stranger) and attend occasional staff meetings or events. Additional responsibilities for the Chair of Trustees: • To supervise the CEO • Chair board meetings. Additional responsibilities for the Treasurer: • Maintaining an overview of the charity’s finances • Ensuring its financial viability advising the trustees on strategic financial matters including our capital development works • With the CEO, presenting budgets and financial reports to the trustees • Ensuring accurate & appropriate financial records are maintained.

Requirements: • Understanding and acceptance of the legal /statutory duties, responsibilities and liabilities involved in being a trustee • A responsible risk taker • Commitment to the values, purpose and objectives of Boiler House Spaces • Providing effective support and enablement to the CEO • A capacity to think strategically • Willingness to speak your mind and to challenge appropriately • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, to listen well and to make decisions in a timely and appropriate manner. DESIRABLE - Any of the following will also be great: • Have experience in, charity, social enterprise and/or business • Be able to connect and develop our corporate funding • Have experience working with young people • Have experience in marketing and brand development • Have experience of working on capital projects • Be part of the community which Boiler House Spaces serves. • Have sound financial experience and interest. • Have experience of community development.

Time Commitment

Estimated: • six- weekly meetings including reading papers etc in preparation and taking any actions agreed at the meetings • some additional hours particularly where specialist advice or workstreams (e.g. a sub- committee) is involved
