The role helps deliver a range of conservations tasks alongside our Rangers team.

Detailed Description

Lee Valley Regional Park’s 10,000 acres boast many unique and diverse open spaces and support nationally important wildlife habitats. The role helps deliver a range of conservations tasks that are detailed in a six monthly Conservation Task Programme. The tasks vary in content and locations throughout the park. Tasks include: • Meadow management • Scrub and tree clearance • Cutting back paths and placing chippings down • Site spruce ups and litter picking • Removal of invasive species Our locations most local to Hackney are: • WaterWorks Centre & Middlesex Filter Beds, Lammas Road (off Lea Bridge Road), Leyton, London E10 7QB • Walthamstow Marshes, Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, London E10 7QL • Lee Valley VeloPark, Abercrombie Road, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 3AB • Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, Eton Manor, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Leadmill Ln, London E20 3AD • Tottenham Marshes, Watermead Way, Tottenham, London N17 0XD • Bow Creek Ecology Park, Bidder Street, London E16 4ST • East India Dock Basin, Orchard Place, London E14 9QS • Gunpowder Park and Sewardstone Marsh, Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, Essex EN9 3GP • Rammey Marsh, Enfield EN3 6JH

No skills are needed but you must be willing to work outdoors and will need to wear appropriate clothing for the weather.

What is in it for you

This role provides volunteers with an opportunity to gain experience of practical conservation tasks and to develop their knowledge of birds and wildlife plus the habitats the need to thrive. You’ll get to see many behind the scenes places of the park and actively contribute to their management through Management Plan and Biodiversity Action Plan driven tasks. The opportunity to use specialised equipment such as brush cutters, with full training provided. Alongside the practical opportunities volunteers also get to me new people, have fun while keeping fit, healthy and active.
