The Treasurer will oversee all financial matters with TAG and will support the trustees in making informed financial decisions.
TAG Youth Club for Disabled Young People (“TAG”) Finance Trustee/Treasurer Job Description Role Purpose The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of TAG, ensuring proper financial management, transparency, and compliance with legal obligations and accepted accounting practice. The Treasurer supports the Trustees in making informed financial decisions. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Oversight • Monitor and report on TAG’s income, expenditure, and financial position • Ensure financial resources are used appropriately and aligned with TAG’s objectives • Oversee, approve and present budgets, accounts, returns and financial statements • Provide regular financial reports to the Trustees/Finance Sub Committee. 2. Budgeting and Planning • Lead/oversee the production of the preparation of annual budgets in conjunction with the CEO and Head of Operations • Support financial planning and forecasting • Advise on the financial implications of strategic decisions • Provide guidance on new financial initiatives. 3. Record Keeping • Ensure accurate financial records and procedures are maintained • Oversee bookkeeping in conjunction with the Head of Operations • Ensure proper systems for receipts, payments, and documentation are in place 4. Reporting and Compliance • Ensure compliance with TAG’s governing documents, charity law, company law, relevant legislation and external financial regulations (e.g., Charity Commission requirements in the UK) • Ensure annual accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant regulations and relevant statutory bodies e.g. The Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies • Arrange independent examination or audit in conjunction with the Chair of Trustees, the CEO and Head of Operations. 5. Banking and Controls • Oversee bank accounts, financial controls and the policy for spend authorisation • Ensure appropriate procedures and controls for payments, expenses, and authorisation are in place • Oversee the treatment for grants and restricted funds • Safeguard TAG’s assets 6. Governance Support • Attend Trustee/Finance Sub Committee meetings and present financial updates • Contribute to overall governance and decision-making • Work closely with the Chair of Trustees, the CEO, Head of Operations and other Trustees • Keep the Board of Trustees informed about its financial responsibilities and obligations and interpret financial data to them in a clear manner. Skills & Experience • Accountancy qualification/knowledge/experience of financial management and bookkeeping • Ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues • Experience with spreadsheets or accounting software e.g. Xero (desirable but not essential) • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship • Knowledge and experience of current fundraising practice relevant to voluntary organisations • Attention to detail and good organisational skills • Integrity and reliability Time Commitment • Typically, a few hours per month • Attendance at Trustee Board meetings, usually held every two months and prepare a presentation of the accounts at the AGM • Attendance at regular Trustee/Finance Sub Committee meetings (e.g., quarterly) • Additional time during year-end reporting Accountability • Reports to the Chair/Board of Trustees Additional Notes • This is a voluntary role • Training and support may be available
