Trustee of The Elleray Community Association, as charity that works to alleviate social isolation and loneliness through its adult social club and other activities.
As a trustee and director, you will participate in shaping our evolving strategy to develop the ECA’s work in responding to local social needs and the opportunities resulting from taking on the management of The Elleray Centre. Your expertise and experience will contribute to our growth from the strong legacy of the Adult Social Club established in Elleray Hall, to now reaching out to a wider section of the community. Trustees work together as a close-knit team, sharing the work through working groups involving two or more trustees each. As a trustee of the ECA you will have the opportunity to enable people in SW London and Teddington to continue to live independently with an improved quality of life from social interaction. As trustees we work together closely with each other, the staff and volunteers to keep improving what we do to alleviate isolation and loneliness in the Teddington area. We listen and engage effectively, are comfortable with challenge and debate and encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment As a trustee you are expected to contribute to the operational governance through committees and working groups. The ECA Elleray operates a Business Management Committee, Finance Committee and HR Committee.

We are looking for people with strong strategic, organisational and administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically. You will be reliable, discreet, comfortable handling confidential information, and able to work closely with the Chair, Treasurer, trustees, and staff to support effective governance. You will ideally have some experience of the charity and voluntary sector and strong views or insight on the role, establishment and management of a community centre You will be passionate about meeting the needs of the community, and relieving isolation and loneliness using the investment made by Richmond Council in The Elleray Centre building, and funding from CILS, the Hampton Fund and others.
You will be making a strategic and direct contribution to alleviating loneliness and isolation in the borough. You will be part of the strategic leadership team evolving the charity to do more through its management of the new Elleray Centre. You will have the opportunity to bring your skills and experience to a local cause, and gain experience in trusteeship.
The role requires: • Attending six Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are generally held in person at The Elleray Centre • Periodic meetings with the Chair with flexibility to respond swiftly to the occasional ad-hoc issues • Other meetings, including those on potential strategy and other charity-related issues. • Supporting or leading a working group within the committee structure. The time commitment is flexible and will vary according to the extent of your interests in supporting the full breadth of our activity in developing our Social Club and the Elleray Centre’s more general services to the community. Trustees are expected to support one or more committees and working groups.
