Boiler House Spaces, a Hackney community charity needs a finance volunteer – training and induction offered. The role is for a minimum of 3 hours per week, remote (at home) or onsite in Hackney.

Detailed Description

Boiler House Spaces is a community charity in Hackney. Local communities in Hackney face some of the highest levels of multiple deprivation including food poverty, mental and physical health inequalities, poor housing and acute gaps in essential services and yet this diverse community is rich in talent often hidden or held back. Boiler House Spaces was set up by local women and is locally led. We run a food bank with guidance and support as well as an affordable nursery. We open our spaces for community groups to connect and make key improvements in their own lives. The charity urgently needs to secure new funding to sustain its work and reach more local people. We are in need of a finance volunteer with induction and training offered. Reporting to: Chief Executive (CE) Location: Flexible (remote or onsite in Hackney) Key duties & Responsibilities 1. General Book-keeping • Enter payments, invoices, income and receipts onto the financial system checking correct coding area is entered (Xero) • Reconcile payments and receipts with items on the bank statement and mark them as reconciled on the finance system. Check with the CE or other Senior Team member about any transactions appearing on the bank statement that are not listed on Xero and when identified and approved enter on the Xero including with the correct coding area and mark as reconciled • Check money owed/debts are being chased/ collected by; o The Nursery Manager regarding outstanding fees or funding (if over 1 month overdue then escalate to the CE). o The Facilities Manager regarding session providers and private hire (if over 1 month overdue then escalate to the CE). o The Projects & Engagement Manager or CE regarding income owed from community or funders (if over 1 month overdue then escalate to the CE). • Check invoices are approved for payment by the relevant manager or CE and query any ‘coding area’ of invoices or payments that look incorrect • Assist the CE, treasurer and accountant when they are compiling management accounts, budgets and forecasts. • To work collaboratively with other staff, Managers and Board members and contribute to a culture of co-operation, flexibility and adaptability.
