Sheppard Trust

Volunteer with this August–September, supporting 24 elderly women moving into new homes in Hampton Court. Help create a calm, welcoming environment by setting up rooms, making tea, chatting with residents, unpacking personal items, and offering reassurance during the transition. Flexible shifts available Mon–Thurs, 12–5pm — volunteer for one day or more.

Detailed Description

I'm reaching out to find some amazing volunteers for an upcoming project with The Sheppard Trust, a charity that provides housing and support for elderly women. I'm the Move Coordinator for a large relocation project taking place throughout August and September, where we will be moving 24 women into new accommodation in Hampton Court. While we do have a professional moving company handling the packing and unpacking, we are looking for volunteers to play a more personal and supportive role during the transition. The volunteer support would involve: Helping to set up rooms (e.g. making beds) Making cups of tea and providing a friendly, reassuring presence Chatting with residents and helping them feel comfortable and settled Assisting with unpacking smaller personal items Checking in over the following days to help adjust items within their flats if needed The primary aim is to help keep the residents feeling calm, supported, and positive throughout what can understandably be a stressful time. This will be every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 12:00 - 17:00 at Hampton Court, KT8 9AH We are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, patient, and happy to engage with elderly residents. Any support you can offer is appreciated. You could offer your time and support for 1 day or all the days, whichever is possible with your summer diary. Please contact me to chat further about the project or book in your days.

Why these skills are required

We are looking for compassionate, patient, and friendly volunteers who are comfortable supporting elderly residents during a major house move. Volunteers should be willing to help with light practical tasks such as making beds, unpacking personal belongings, preparing refreshments, and assisting residents to settle comfortably into their new homes. Empathy, reliability, and a positive attitude are key.

What is in it for you

Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of elderly residents during an important life transition. This role offers valuable experience in community support, elderly care, and teamwork, while helping to build confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills. Volunteers will gain a sense of achievement from providing practical and emotional support, meet new people, and be part of a positive and rewarding community project.
