As a Deputy Welcome Centre Lead, you will play a key supporting role in the smooth, safe, and compassionate running of Slade Welcome Centre. Working closely with the Centre Lead, you’ll help coordinate volunteers, oversee centre activities, and step in to lead sessions when required. Volunteers take time to share a warm drink, discuss food requirements, offer a listening ear, and, when appropriate, signpost people to further support - all of which you’ll help guide and support.
Where: Slade Community Hall, Pendrell Street, SE18 2PJ When: Thursdays, 9am-11.30am Time Commitment: 2.5 hours per week plus additional 10 hours over the year for meetings and training. We ask for a minimum of 6 months commitment. Your calm, reliable presence and supportive leadership will contribute to a welcoming environment where both guests and volunteers feel respected, cared for, and empowered. Key tasks: - Assist the Welcome Centre Lead in motivating and supporting volunteers, helping to maintain a positive and collaborative team dynamic. - Help monitor rota changes, absences, and volunteer needs as directed by the Lead. Step in to help ensure volunteer cover when required. - Help new volunteers settle in and feel confident during their first sessions. Provide guidance and support throughout the shift. - Work with the Lead to oversee day-to-day tasks and ensure all aspects of the session run smoothly. Be prepared to take the lead if the Welcome Centre Lead is unavailable. - Follow safeguarding, data protection, and health & safety policies. Support the Lead in identifying and reporting any concerns. - Wear the designated uniform at all times, as part of our safeguarding policy to ensure all visitors can easily identify authorised volunteers. - Help foster a friendly, respectful, and non-judgemental space for everyone, ensuring dignity and compassion remain central to the experience. - Participate in volunteer debriefs and assist in gathering feedback or highlighting any issues to the Lead. - Help share relevant updates or concerns with the Welcome Centre Lead, and when delegated, communicate with the Operations or Volunteering & HR Leads. - Help record e-vouchers and any signposting information on the data system, adhering to data protection and confidentiality agreements. - Support in preparing the space before each session and ensuring it is clean and tidy afterward. Assist with locking up the building when delegated. - Help unload the delivery van before the session begins and load it back up afterwards. - Represent Greenwich Foodbank in a friendly and professional manner and support the Lead in maintaining a positive relationship with our host venue. - Complete Greenwich Foodbank's required training modules.
