Detailed Description

By joining the Elleray Community Association trustees as Secretary you will be part of the team delivering social benefits in The Elleray Centre in Teddington. The role involves • Being a member of the Trustees Board and Director of the Elleray Community Association and therefore understanding the legal responsibilities. • Administering trustee board and selected committee meetings including, setting dates/times, informing attendees, distributing agendas and papers, taking minutes and maintaining records. The Secretary may need to administer other key meetings related to the governance of the Elleray Community Association. • Working closely with the Chair to set board meeting agendas in consultation with other trustees and ensure that the draft minutes are accurate. • Guiding the work of the organisation in line with the governing document and business plans, ensuring resources are used appropriately. • Keeping up to date with legislation and guidance relevant to the role of Trustees and Directors running a registered charity. • Understanding the aims of the Elleray Community Association and the work it does within the community. • The secretary will normally play a support role in setting up Annual General Meetings or Extraordinary Meetings when required. As a Trustee the role is expected to contribute to the wider governance, and support through committee work. The Elleray Community Association operates a Business Management Committee, Finance Committee and HR Committee.

We are looking for someone with strong organisational and administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically. Experience of governance, compliance, board administration, or charity/company secretarial duties would be valuable. The ideal candidate will be reliable, discreet, comfortable handling confidential information, and able to work closely with the Chair, trustees, and staff to support effective governance.

The Elleray Community Association (ECA) is a registered Charity that manages the services provided at the Elleray Centre based in Teddington. By joining the trustees of the ECA you will contribute to our work helping people to reconnect with old friends and meet new people in a secure and inviting setting. While our activities are primarily aimed at elderly and vulnerable adults in the local area, the centre is open to everyone, aiming to alleviate loneliness and isolation through social activities. Our current programme includes • Social gatherings at the Elleray Social Club. • Arts, crafts, educational talks, and workshops. • Exercise Classes, Gentle fitness classes tailored for seniors, both indoor and outdoor. • Counselling and support groups. • Outings • Services like hairdressing, chiropody, and daily hot lunches Our Social Club has a membership of over 200 mostly elderly adults with attendance of up to 40 people daily who are to continue live independently. You will contribute to the development of the newly built Elleray Centre from the smaller Elleray Hall which brought the opportunity to expand the charities impact in the community whilst still focussing on its charitable aims. In this regard we work in close partnership with Richmond Council, our largest funder, to grow the Elleray Centre’s role and impact as Teddington’s community centre. We also have a café facility which we are looking to establish with volunteers to support local social groups getting together. We collaborate with other community centres and organisations in the borough.

Time Commitment

Trustee meetings are scheduled every two months with various sub-committee meetings each month. The time commitment is flexible and will depend on your interests in supporting the breadth of our activities developing the Elleray Centre’s services in the community.
