Together Better Digital Inclusion Volunteer
Volunteer Centre Hackney
This is an opportunity to work within a GP practice supporting one to one patient around general IT support, especially the NHS App. The aim of the role is to provide the patients with the knowledge, skills and tools in order for them to feel more included and to develop awareness when managing their own health.
Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage patients into activities that will benefit their health and wellbeing, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. This is an opportunity to work within a GP practice helping the team spreading awareness around the NHS App and providing Basic IT knowledge to their patients. The volunteer will engage with patients on a one to one and group basis supporting them with: • download and use the NHS online system (Engage/Consult). • book appointments online. • request repeat prescriptions. • send message to the Practice (if applicable). • view their personal medical records. • access the Patients App on the NHS website and/or on their phone. • use the Patient Partner Automated Booking System (if applicable). • use AccurRx system for Patient Triage. • complete on-line consultations access your GP health record. • use GP websites for self-care. • Support patients who are not digitally skilled and/or interested with alternative ways of accessing NHS services. • make your phone work for you, voice messaging/ screen visibility and accessibility. • do on line shopping. • connect through video calls and free online services like zoom, teams, Google meets, Teams. This is also a free way to keep in contact with friends and family. • create an email account and accessing and sending emails on your phone/device. • access safe health information and stay away from anything that requires putting your personal information on the internet. Learn best practices for internet safety. • download fun games that can also help with brain training/Free word games memory games. Skills and Experience: Essentials: • computer literate, media smart and able to navigate the internet • friendly • good at time keeping • able to listen carefully patients’ needs • be patient and able to communicate efficiently and effectively with people from different backgrounds • be punctual and organized able to keep accurate records of data • reliable • able to meet confidentiality and safeguarding requirements • not being a patient of the surgery where you will volunteer in (subject to the GP surgery discretion) Desirable: • Bengali, Turkish and other minority communities’ speakers

• Experience in supporting one to one patient tailored to their specific needs • Freedom of using your own initiative in developing IT content and delivering Basic IT group session • Regular one to one support and feedback from your Supervisor (Community Engagement Care Coordinator) • Reference
