Schools Disability Awareness Volunteer

The Schools Disability Awareness Volunteer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of engaging and interactive workshops that promote disability awareness and inclusion among children and young people. Volunteers will visit local primary and secondary schools to help promote understanding, empathy, and inclusive attitudes towards people with disabilities.

The Schools Disability Awareness Volunteer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of engaging and interactive workshops that promote disability awareness and inclusion among children and young people. Volunteers will visit local primary and secondary schools to help promote understanding, empathy, and inclusive attitudes towards people with disabilities. The Volunteer will be expected to adhere to the Ruils policies and procedures including health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding adults and children, equal opportunities and diversity. Full induction and training will be given to ensure that volunteers feel clear and confident about these policies. Because of the requirement to go into schools, a DBS will be required.

Why these skills are required

• Supporting the Group Lead during the workshop settings • Helping set up and organise activities and materials • Engaging with children aged 5-18 (Can pick preference between primary and secondary) • Provide additional support to children if needed • Happy to talk about their disability if needed • Tech experience preferred, but not required. Training will be provided

What is in it for you

Volunteers will develop skills in communication, teamwork, and group management and IT programs (if wanted) . Volunteers will also deepen their understanding of disability awareness and inclusion, gain confidence in public speaking and leadership.

Time Commitment

We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 half-days per month (weekdays) .

The role will mean supporting workshops in local schools in Southwest London / Richmond Borough, yet to be determined. There will be training and supervision meetings with the Team's Lead at the Ruils offices in Teddington at: DAAC Building, 4 Waldegrave Road, Teddington, TW11 8HT

Ruils offices next to Teddington Library. Buses: 281, 285, 33, R68
