Purpose of the role: The Chair provides leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance, strategic oversight, and strong support to the organisation’s CEO and senior leadership team.
Key responsibilities: • Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring discussions are focused, inclusive, and lead to clear decisions. • Provide leadership to trustees and ensure the Board works collectively to fulfil its legal and governance responsibilities. • Support the CEO through constructive challenge, guidance, and encouragement. • Ensure the organisation remains focused on its mission, values, and strategic priorities. • Promote good governance, accountability, and effective decision-making. • Act as an ambassador for the organisation and support positive relationships with partners, funders, and stakeholders. Essential skills and experience: • Experience of chairing meetings, boards, or committees. • Understanding of charity governance and trustee responsibilities. • Ability to provide support, guidance, and constructive challenge to the CEO. • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills. • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. • Ability to represent the organisation with partners, funders, and stakeholders. • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and supporting people with learning disabilities and autism. Desirable: • Previous trustee, non-executive, or senior leadership experience. • Experience in the charity, health, social care, or community sector. • Experience supporting organisational growth, fundraising, or partnerships.
