Volunteer Mentor

Mentors are needed to provide a supportive relationship and help an autistic young person by building confidence and new skills, reducing isolation, and accessing their local community through participation in activities together.

Detailed Description

We are looking for volunteer mentors. Each mentoring opportunity is unique and depends on the young person you would be mentoring. Your support will be make such a positive difference whilst being fun and rewarding. Mentors are needed to provide a supportive relationship and help an autistic young person by building confidence and new skills, reducing isolation, and accessing their local community through participation in activities together. Previous experience of working with people with additional needs is not required. We are looking for the following qualities and skills: 1. Reliability and Resilience 2. Enthusiasm and a creative approach to solving problem and ideas for practical activities. 3. A non–judgmental approach in working with others 4. Effective Communication skills and a professional approach to volunteering 5. Confidence in working with new people and situations All our volunteers receive induction training, ongoing training and support, and opportunities for further development and references. This is a very rewarding role and a great opportunity to make a real positive difference. As well as supporting young autistic people, you will be learning and developing new skills and meeting people from diverse backgrounds.

Art & Craft, Basic IT skills - internet & email, Counselling, Creative & Design, Evaluating & Reviewing, Language Skills, Organising & Planning, Reading & Writing

Previous experience is not required.

What is in it for you

All our volunteers receive induction training, ongoing training and support, and opportunities for further development and references.

Time Commitment

You will meet on a regular basis for around 2 hours a week for around 6 months (preferably). However please do talk to us about what you can offer as we aim to be flexible.
