In this role, you will support people to access healthcare and overcome barriers, providing much-needed practical support. The Placement is primarily remote, supporting our Advice Line and following up cases, with one in-person session per week (or every two weeks) following induction; however, this is dependent on our on-site capacity. In-person work consists of supporting outreach programmes in East London. Student Placement volunteers are the main point of contact for patients who call our advice line and visit Outreach Services. They carry out interviews to determine peoples’ needs and provide appropriate advice and support. They act as advocates and liaise with NHS service providers to link our patients to the care they need. What you will be doing • You will be the first point of contact for people using our service in a health promotion setting. • Listening to peoples’ needs and identifying other support services. • Helping with GP registration and administration needs & advocating on people’s behalf to NHS services. • Taking on in depth and complex casework where people seeking support face significant barriers to accessing healthcare. • Completing data collection forms with people engaging with our services. • Responding to queries on our advice line. For f2f volunteers we also require that people have had 2 doses of MMR and 3 doses of tetanus/diphtheria/polio vaccines. These are all routine childhood vaccinations that can be easily accessed for free via the NHS.
