We Welcome
SEEN is committed to inclusive and fair recruitment and welcomes Listener Volunteer applications from individuals across a wide range of backgrounds, including: Ex-offenders: We welcome applications from individuals with criminal records. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify someone from volunteering. Each application is considered individually, based on the nature of the role and the circumstances of any offences. We follow a clear and confidential process in line with the DBS Code of Practice and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Refugees and Asylum Seekers: We aim to make our recruitment process and volunteer roles accessible to individuals from all communities. Where needed, we will seek translation and interpretation support during recruitment. However, fluent spoken and written English is essential for the Listener role, due to the nature of the support provided. People with Disabilities or Additional Needs: SEEN has made reasonable adjustments to ensure physical accessibility and supports volunteers with visual, hearing, or learning difficulties. We are happy to liaise with supporting agencies to facilitate participation. Individuals from Low-Income Backgrounds: We recognise that financial barriers can prevent people from volunteering. While our Listener training is accredited by the Christian Counselling Board (ACC) and carries a cost, sponsorship options are available for those who may need financial support to complete the training. We value the unique perspectives and experiences that volunteers from diverse backgrounds bring to our work. All Listener Volunteers must share SEEN’s Christian ethos, and we consider this a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the role.
