Trustee

Hampton Fund

Bring your professional experience from the charity, community or social care sector to drive forward our critical grant-making support for local residents experiencing hardship, and help us change more lives.

Detailed Description

We are seeking a new Trustee with local charity, community or social sector experience and a local connection. No previous Trustee or grant-making experience is needed. Each year, Hampton Fund makes grants of around £2.5 million to individuals, families, charities and community groups. As a Trustee with experience in supporting vulnerable groups, you will be involved in making decisions on how our funds are spent, influencing the strategic development of our work and creating direct and tangible change for local residents facing hardship. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your professional knowledge for wider public benefit, influence the future of an established local organisation, and work alongside a dedicated and experienced Board and staff team.

Why these skills are required

We are looking for someone with professional experience from the charity, community or social care sectors, and therefore able to bring insights relevant to our grant-making to trustee discussions. It is not necessary to have previous board or committee experience as training around governance will be provided. We encourage applications from people with a range of life experiences, ages and backgrounds.

What is in it for you

You will be involved in making decisions on a wide range of issues, influencing the development of our grant-making work and how we most effectively manage and utilise our funds. You will have the opportunity to learn about the process of grant-making from a dedicated and experienced Board and staff team, and play a key role in making direct and tangible change in the lives of local individuals and families.

Time Commitment

The time commitment is around 3-4 hours a month. Meetings can be both in the evening and during weekdays. They are usually in person, at the Hampton Fund Office, but with the option to join by video link if needed. Full trustee meetings take place every quarter, plus there are a number of sub-committees that in most cases also meet quarterly. It is hoped that each trustee will be a member of at least two of these committees, of which one would be a grants committee.
