Youth Helper – Sea Turtles (Ages 5–10 SEND Club) – Apply if aged 18+
Sirens & Sparkles First Aid CIC
Support children aged 5–10 in our inclusive Sea Turtles SEND club. Help with activities, badges and awards and support members to build confidence, independence and new skills. SEND experience is desirable but not essential. Full training and ongoing support provided. Volunteer role for ages 18+.
Join Sirens & Sparkles as a Youth Helper supporting our Sea Turtles club for children aged 5–10. Youth Helpers work alongside Youth Leaders and the wider Sirens & Sparkles team to help provide fun, structured and inclusive club sessions where children can develop confidence, independence, friendships and practical skills. You may help prepare and deliver activities, support children to participate in ways appropriate to their abilities and communication needs, encourage members as they work towards badges and awards, and help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. Our programme includes first aid, safety, communication, healthy living, creativity, problem solving, adventure, everyday life skills and community activities. Our members may have a wide range of abilities, communication styles and support needs. Some may experience sensory overload, distress, emotional dysregulation or behaviours that challenge. Volunteers will receive appropriate training, guidance and support. Personal care Some members may require personal-care support, which could include assistance with toileting, changing nappies or continence products, or other personal-care needs. Providing personal care is completely optional. Volunteers will not be expected to provide personal care simply because they are aged 18+ or because they are providing 1:1 support. Only volunteers who have specifically agreed that they are comfortable providing personal care and have received appropriate training and guidance will undertake these tasks. Personal care will be provided in accordance with our safeguarding and personal-care procedures. Youth Helper is a supporting role and being aged 18+ does not automatically mean you will be expected to become a Youth Leader or take responsibility for running club sessions. There may be opportunities to progress or take on additional responsibilities if you wish and when appropriately trained and confident. Experience of supporting children with SEND is desirable but not essential. We are looking for people who are patient, reliable, understanding and willing to learn. Full induction, training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided. This volunteer role is for applicants aged 18+.

Experience of supporting children with SEND is desirable but not essential. This may come from employment, volunteering, education, caring responsibilities or lived experience. We are looking for volunteers who are patient, reliable, understanding and willing to learn. You should be comfortable working as part of a team, following guidance from Youth Leaders and supporting children with a range of abilities, communication styles and support needs. Depending on your experience, training and confidence, you may support children individually (1:1) or as part of a small group during activities. You should be able to encourage participation and independence, communicate effectively and remain calm if a child becomes distressed, overwhelmed or displays behaviours that challenge. You will not be expected to undertake responsibilities outside your training, experience or agreed role. Full induction, training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
Volunteering with Sirens & Sparkles gives you the opportunity to make a positive difference while developing valuable skills and experience. You will receive: + Full induction, guidance and ongoing support + First aid and safeguarding training + Opportunities for additional SEND and role-specific training + Practical experience supporting children with SEND, including opportunities for 1:1 and small-group support where appropriate + Experience helping to deliver structured activities, badges and awards + Opportunities to develop confidence, communication and teamwork skills + Experience in problem solving, activity support and working with a range of individual needs + Opportunities to develop your skills and take on additional responsibilities when appropriately trained and confident + Sirens & Sparkles volunteer uniform + Recognition through our Volunteer Service Awards + Experience that can support your CV, education or future employment + The opportunity to meet new people and become part of a supportive and inclusive team Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to help children develop confidence, independence, friendships and new skills while making a positive contribution to your local community.
Approximately 12 hours per month. This includes attending regular club sessions, helping with preparation and set-up, supporting members during activities, and taking part in relevant training or team activities when required. We are looking for volunteers who can make a regular commitment, as consistency and familiar volunteers are particularly important for many of our members, especially those receiving 1:1 or small-group support. We understand that volunteers may occasionally be unavailable due to work, education, holidays, family commitments or illness. We ask that as much notice as possible is given so that appropriate support arrangements can be made. Volunteers are not expected to attend every Sirens & Sparkles location. Your regular club, location and availability will be agreed with you.
