Join Sirens & Sparkles as a Youth Helper supporting our Sea Turtles club for children aged 5–10. This volunteering opportunity is specifically for young people aged 14–17 who would like to gain experience, develop new skills and make a positive difference in their community. Youth Helpers work alongside and are supervised by our adult Youth Leaders and wider Sirens & Sparkles team. You may help prepare activities and equipment, encourage children to join in, support group activities, help with badges and awards, and help create a fun, welcoming and inclusive club environment. Our Sea Turtles programme includes first aid, safety, communication, healthy living, creativity, problem solving, adventure, everyday skills and community activities. As a young volunteer, you will not be responsible for supervising or caring for members and will not be counted as part of the adult staffing ratios. You will not be left in sole charge of a child, provide personal care or be expected to manage challenging situations independently. All activities and responsibilities will be appropriate to your age, experience and training, and an adult member of the team will be available to support you. No previous SEND or youth-work experience is required. We are looking for young people who are patient, reliable, friendly, willing to learn and interested in helping others. Full induction, training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided. Applicants aged 14–17 will require appropriate parent or guardian involvement and permission as part of our young-volunteer recruitment process.

We ask Youth Helpers to attend their regular club sessions as consistently as possible. The time commitment will usually include the club session itself, some time for setting up and tidying away, and occasional training or team activities appropriate to the volunteer's age and role. We understand that young volunteers have school, college, exams, family commitments, holidays and other activities. We will work with young volunteers and their parent or guardian to agree a manageable commitment. Regular attendance is encouraged because familiar and consistent volunteers can be particularly important for our members, but we understand that young volunteers may occasionally be unable to attend. Youth Helpers are asked to give as much notice as possible if they cannot attend a session.
