Youth Leader – Otters (Ages 11–17 SEND Club)

Support young people aged 11–17 in our inclusive Otters SEND club. Help deliver practical activities, badges and awards while supporting members to develop confidence, independence, friendships and life skills. SEND experience is desirable but not essential. Training and ongoing support provided. Volunteer role for ages 18+.
Join Sirens & Sparkles as a Youth Leader supporting our Otters club for young people aged 11–17. You will help plan and deliver fun, structured and inclusive club sessions where young people can develop confidence, independence, friendships and practical life skills. Our programme includes first aid, safety, communication, healthy living, digital life, money skills, creativity, problem solving, adventure, independent skills, community and volunteering activities, with members working towards badges, milestones and awards. Youth Leaders support young people to participate at a level appropriate to their abilities, communication needs and support requirements, while helping to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. Our members may have a wide range of abilities and support needs. Some may experience sensory overload, emotional dysregulation or behaviours that challenge. Volunteers will receive appropriate training, guidance and support. Personal care Some members may require personal-care support, which could include assistance with toileting, changing continence products, or other personal-care needs. Providing personal care is completely optional. Volunteers will not be expected to provide personal care simply because they are aged 18+ or hold a Youth Leader role. Only volunteers who have specifically agreed that they are comfortable providing personal care and have received appropriate training and guidance will undertake these tasks. Personal care will be provided in accordance with our safeguarding and personal-care procedures. Once appropriately trained and confident, Youth Leaders may lead club sessions and support other volunteers when the Club Manager or another senior team member is unavailable. Experience of supporting young people with SEND is desirable but not essential. Full induction, training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided. This is an adult volunteer role for ages 18+.

Experience of supporting children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential. This may come from employment, volunteering, education, caring responsibilities or lived experience. We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable, responsible, understanding and willing to learn. Youth Leaders should be able to communicate effectively with young people and adults, work as part of a team, organise and deliver activities, follow safeguarding and safety procedures, and remain calm in challenging situations. Once appropriately trained and confident, Youth Leaders may lead club sessions and support other volunteers when the Club Manager or another senior team member is unavailable. Experience of youth work, education, care or first aid is also beneficial but not required. Full induction, training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.

Approximately 12 hours per month. This includes attending regular club sessions, helping with preparation and set-up, and taking part in relevant training, meetings or team activities when required. We are looking for Youth Leaders who can make a regular commitment, as consistency and familiar volunteers are particularly important for many of our members. We understand that volunteers may occasionally be unavailable due to work, education, holidays, family commitments or illness. We ask that as much notice as possible is given so that appropriate cover can be arranged. Volunteers are not expected to attend every Sirens & Sparkles location. Your regular club/location and availability will be agreed with you.
