Gardening volunteer

Balance CIO

Join our friendly community garden and help adults with learning disabilities develop new skills and confidence through gardening. Work alongside support workers and clients on a variety of outdoor tasks while enjoying a welcoming, social environment.

Detailed Description

Our community garden is a vibrant skills development service for adults with learning disabilities. As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll work alongside support workers to engage clients in a range of gardening activities such as planting, weeding, watering, and general garden maintenance. You’ll also have the chance to help out in our small garden shop, where we sell home-grown plants and produce made from our own vegetables. We’re usually working on an exciting project or two at any given time, so there’s always something new happening. Volunteers can choose which tasks and areas of the garden they’d like to be involved in, and we also welcome new ideas and project suggestions. Breaks are shared with clients, providing a lovely opportunity to connect and build friendships in a relaxed setting. Alongside gardening, the service also runs other engaging activities such as cooking, woodwork, golf, companion cycling, and park walks — and volunteers are welcome to get involved.
