Role: Treasurer - Shrewsbury House Community Association Support the Board of Trustees by providing this much loved community centre with financial oversight through governance and reporting using your experience and ability to understand and explain financial information.
The Treasurer is a trustee and voluntary role that provides financial oversight, ensures proper financial governance, and supports Shrewsbury House Community Association’s (SHCA) long-term financial sustainability. Key Responsibilities Financial Oversight • Ensure accurate financial records and sound accounting practices. • Support preparation of annual budgets and monitor performance. • Review accounts, bank statements, and cashflow forecasts. • Review and approve supplier contracts in collaboration with the Centre Manager • Ensure compliance with charity financial and legal requirements. Reporting & Governance • Present financial updates at Board meetings. • Oversee preparation of annual accounts and liaison with the independent examiner/auditor. • Ensure trustees understand the charity’s financial position and risks. Strategic Contribution • Provide financial insight for long-term planning and decision-making. • Advise on reserves policy, income generation, and financial controls. Compliance & Controls • Ensure financial policies and internal controls are in place and reviewed regularly. • Oversee banking arrangements and authorisation processes. Time Commitment • Approximately 4–6 hours per month, inclusive of; Attendance at Monthly Board meetings with additional time required during budgeting, annual salary review and year-end. Skills & Experience Essential: • Finance or accounting experience. • Ability to present and explain financial information clearly. • Understanding or willingness to learn charity finance. • Commitment to SHCA’s mission. Desirable: • Experience with charity accounting. • Knowledge of budgeting for small organisations. • Familiarity with accounting software. Eligibility Trustees must be over 18 and not disqualified under charity law. Induction and onboarding support provided.
